Review: 2017 Chevrolet Silverado

Review 2017 Chevrolet Silverado

When shopping for a full-size pickup truck, you’re looking for a vehicle that can do a whole lot more than get you from point A to point B. You need power, space, and reliability, above all else. This is why drivers time and again choose the Chevy Silverado, named by J.D. Power and Associates as the most dependable, long-lasting large pickup on the road for two years in a row.

This year Chevy made some updates to the classic pickup, including some options for cabin, bed size, engine, and trim levels. Here's our review of the 2017 Silverado:

POWER AND PERFORMANCE

What’s a pickup without power? You’ll have to ask a Ford driver. What we know is that the Silverado is as good as it gets under the hood. The base model has a 4.3-liter V6 engine with 6-speed automatic transmission. It has 285 horsepower, 305 lb-ft of torque, and a 7,600-lb towing capacity.

Drivers who choose the LTZ or High Country models will get a standard 5.3-liter V8 powerplant with 355 horsepower, 383 lb-ft of torque, and a towing capacity of 11,100 pounds. Drivers wanting a little more power can opt for a 6.2-liter V8 engine with 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. This powerhouse can haul up to 12,000 pounds.

FEATURES

The all-new Silverado comes equipped with an intuitive, easily visible driver information display, cruise control, ventilated power seats, and remote engine start. Entertainment features include a 4-speaker audio system with auxiliary input and AM/FM radio, Bluetooth and OnStar technologies, and MyLink infotainment system. Buyers can also opt for a 6-speaker audio system, a 7-speaker Bose premium audio system, HD and satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.

Other upgrades to this year’s model include capless fuel fill, power pedals, heated steering wheel, IntelliBeam headlamps, and a teen driver mode that lets you control audio volume and speed limits.

STYLING

The 2017 Silverado was designed with bold, horizontal elements and a functional hood scoop that lets the engine breathe (not to mention improves performance) even if the hood is covered. It has a boxy shape that’s unmistakably strong and capable.

Drivers can choose from a variety of configurations to suit their individual needs. Options include a 2-door, 3-passenger regular cab; a 4-door, 5/6-passenger Double Cab; or a 4-door, 5/6-passenger Crew Cab. Additionally, you have the choice between three bed lengths: 5.8 feet, 6.6. feet, or 8.2 feet.

SAFETY

Standard safety features on the 2017 Silverado include antilock brakes, electronic stability control, a suite of airbags, daytime running lights, post-collision safety system, and Xenon headlamps. Drivers may also opt for remove anti-theft, collision mitigation systems, and lane departure warning systems.
